MEDIAN Group launches new digital health brand Rethera, with Rethera Mind as first programme for psychosomatic aftercare

MEDIAN Group is expanding its digital healthcare offering with the launch of Rethera, a new master brand for its digital health solutions. The first programme to launch under this name is Rethera Mind, a digital psychosomatic aftercare programme that combines therapist-led group sessions with a structured digital support via an app.

Through Rethera, MEDIAN Group will deliver digital health solutions across the entire care continuum – from prevention through to specialised aftercare programmes. The brand’s strapline is ‘Connected for Life’ which reflects the Group’s ambition to provide continuity of care to patients, beyond their inpatient or outpatient treatment.

Rethera Mind: structured aftercare with digital and personal support

Rethera Mind is the first aftercare programme of its kind in Germany, approved by the German Pension Insurance (DRV) that systematically combines a digital application with 25 weekly therapist-led group sessions. The programme is currently being introduced as part of a pilot project for rehabilitation patients with depression, anxiety disorders and somatoform disorders of mild to moderate severity.

Rethera Mind is delivered entirely remotely, allowing patients to continue their psychosomatic rehabilitation seamlessly from home. In addition to the group sessions, the programme includes individual intake and closing consultations, as well as one-to-one support if needed. Digital modules help participants reflect on their well-being, deepen their understanding of mental health and build sustainable daily routines.

By providing structured support after rehabilitation, Rethera Mind helps reduce the risk of relapse and stabilise treatment outcomes – particularly at a time when patients often face long waiting times for outpatient psychotherapy.

“The transition from the protected rehabilitation environment back to everyday life is often one of the most challenging phases for our patients,” says Maren Karls, Therapy Lead at MEDIAN in Germany’s Digital Health Centre in Düsseldorf. “Rethera Mind combines weekly group sessions with an app that supports patients in their daily lives — providing help exactly when they need it.”

“Made by MEDIAN”: developed through interdisciplinary collaboration

Rethera Mind was developed entirely in-house at MEDIAN in Germany, bringing together experts from medicine, psychotherapy, software development, product management and regulatory affairs. The digital aftercare programme is delivered centrally by the therapeutic team at MEDIAN Germany’s Digital Health Centre in Düsseldorf, on behalf of participating clinics.

“When I joined MEDIAN just over two years ago, software development was not yet an established discipline within the organisation,” explains Markus Mayer, Head of Engineering Digital Health. “Our strategic decision was to gradually bring development and hosting in-house — allowing us to become more independent and to evolve digital solutions more quickly.”

By early 2026, Rethera Mind will be available across all 35 psychosomatic clinics at MEDIAN in Germany. The pilot project has been approved by the DRV until 30 June 2027, with the aim of integrating the programme into standard care based on the results of an ongoing scientific evaluation.

Launch at the Reha-Kolloquium 2026

MEDIAN Group0 will present the Rethera brand and the Rethera Mind programme to a wider professional audience for the first time at the Reha-Kolloquium from 24 to 26 March 2026.

With Rethera, MEDIAN Group is the first major rehabilitation provider to introduce a dedicated digital health master brand, underlining its commitment to advancing digital healthcare.

“With Rethera Mind, we are launching a truly pioneering product ‘made by MEDIAN’, combining a digital aftercare application with group-based therapeutic support for the first time,” say Judith Dittmer and Sven Schunter, Managing Directors in Digital Health. “The programme reflects our vision of supporting patients as effectively as possible even after rehabilitation. We would like to thank all colleagues whose dedication and expertise helped turn this vision into reality.”
